Maharashtra Weather Update: Heatwave in Mumbai, Rain Alert in Vidarbha

Mumbai: A sharp contrast in weather conditions has emerged across Maharashtra, with intense heat continuing in coastal regions while parts of Vidarbha brace for rain and thunderstorms. The India Meteorological Department has issued multiple alerts across the state.

The IMD has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to affect Mumbai and the Konkan region between May 6 and May 8, with a yellow alert issued for districts including Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg. The combination of high temperatures and humidity is expected to make conditions particularly uncomfortable for residents.

Meanwhile, Vidarbha is facing a different challenge, as authorities have issued alerts for thunderstorms, gusty winds, and rainfall in several districts. Areas such as Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Wardha may witness light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of up to 40–50 km/h. There is also a possibility of hailstorms in isolated locations, further intensifying weather concerns.

Despite these developments, heatwave conditions persist across parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada, where temperatures continue to remain high. In Marathwada districts, maximum temperatures are expected to cross 41°C, while northern regions such as Nashik and Jalgaon are likely to experience dry and hot weather.

The IMD has also indicated the possibility of scattered rainfall in parts of Marathwada and southern central Maharashtra over the coming days, offering limited relief from the heat. However, the overall weather pattern remains volatile, with a mix of extreme heat and sudden storm activity.

The situation highlights the fluctuating pre-monsoon conditions across the state, as authorities urge residents to stay cautious amid rising temperatures and unpredictable weather changes.
