Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL 2026 campaign is in serious trouble. A fifth defeat in six outings this time a five-wicket loss to Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday has left them rooted to the bottom of the points table with just one point to show for their efforts so far.
The Titans made short work of KKR’s total of 179, getting there in 19.4 overs. Captain Shubman Gill was the wrecker-in-chief, stroking a composed 86 to anchor the chase with ease.
The Math Is Brutal
For KKR to have a realistic shot at the top four, they must win all eight of their remaining league games a run that would take them to 17 points and, historically, into playoff contention. A single additional slip could be fatal. History backs this up: in IPL 2025, the Delhi Capitals were eliminated despite finishing with 15 points, while the Mumbai Indians scraped into fourth place with 16. In other words, KKR have no margin for error. None.
What’s Left on the Schedule
The road ahead is unforgiving. KKR return home to host Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 19, before travelling to Lucknow to face the Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on April 26. A trip to Hyderabad follows on May 3 against the Sunrisers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
Their remaining fixtures then line up as follows: Delhi Capitals (May 8), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (May 13, Raipur), Gujarat Titans (May 16, Kolkata), Mumbai Indians (May 20, Kolkata), and a final league outing against Delhi Capitals on May 24 at Eden Gardens. Eight games. Eight must-wins. Anything less, and KKR’s season is done.
