Indians Advised To Leave Iran At the Earliest Despite Ceasefire Deal

Even after the United States and Iran announced a two-week ceasefire agreement, the Indian Embassy in Tehran has issued a fresh advisory urging Indian nationals still in Iran to exit the country as soon as possible. The advisory, dated April 8, 2026, comes in continuation of the previous day’s notice and highlights the need for caution amid ongoing uncertainties.
The embassy strongly recommended that Indians coordinate their departure directly with the embassy and use only the routes suggested by it. It explicitly warned against approaching any international land borders without prior consultation and coordination with embassy officials.
This latest guidance follows an April 7 advisory that had asked Indian nationals to stay indoors for at least 48 hours, avoid sensitive locations such as electric or military installations, and refrain from staying on upper floors of multi-storey buildings. Any movement on highways was to be undertaken only after strict coordination with the embassy.

The ceasefire was reached on Tuesday, just before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump. Under the deal, Iran agreed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for a limited period. The White House stated that Israel had also agreed to the ceasefire. Talks between the US and Iran are scheduled to begin on Friday in Islamabad, with Pakistan acting as a mediator.
However, doubts persist over the stability of the truce. Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei described the ceasefire as “not the end of the war” while ordering military units to stop firing. Separately, an Iranian military official claimed that Israel continued attacks on Iran even after the announcement.
The Indian government’s repeated advisories reflect continued security concerns in the region despite the temporary halt in hostilities. Indian nationals are advised to follow embassy instructions closely for a safe exit.
