The United States carried out a complex and high-risk rescue mission to recover a crew member from a downed F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet in Iran, employing a combination of deception tactics and overwhelming air support, according to reports by Hindustan Times citing agencies.
The aircraft had been shot down during ongoing hostilities, leaving two crew members stranded in hostile territory. While one was rescued earlier, the second airman remained unaccounted for, prompting an intensive search-and-rescue effort. US officials, quoted by agencies, revealed that the operation involved deploying dozens of aircraft equipped with advanced weaponry to secure the extraction.
To minimise the risk of interception, the mission relied heavily on diversionary strategies. Multiple aircraft were used not only for combat readiness but also to mislead Iranian forces about the exact location of the rescue attempt. This coordinated approach helped US forces gain the critical window needed to locate and evacuate the missing airman.
According to agency reports, the stranded crew member had managed to evade capture for an extended period despite being in enemy territory. The rescue operation was conducted under significant threat, with the possibility of confrontation with Iranian forces looming throughout.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the success of the mission, stating that the airman had been safely recovered. He described the operation as one of the most daring search-and-rescue efforts undertaken by the US military. Reports from agencies also indicated that the rescued individual sustained injuries but was expected to recover.
The mission underscores the US military’s capability to conduct coordinated operations in hostile environments, combining intelligence, airpower, and tactical planning to retrieve personnel under extreme conditions.
