Bhainsaha Mela Tragedy: 60-Foot Swing Collapse Injures 30 In Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar

Lucknow : A horrifying incident took place at the ongoing Bhainsaha Mela in Kushinagar district of Uttar Pradesh where at least 30 people were injured after a 60 foot high swing ride collapsed on Wednesday night.

Eyewitnesses said the swing was overcrowded with 80 people at the time of incident. Merely after two rounds of rotations creaking sounds were heard signalling a possible downfall but the operator did not pay heed and continued the ride despite warnings from the passengers.

Moments later, the bulky structure uprooted from its core and thrashed onto ground with thud noise throwing away riders off and trapping several underneath.

Police personnel reached the spot on time and tried to deliver timely rescue operations. The heavy metal structure made the rescue effort difficult, taking nearly  an hour to remove the trapped ones. In total, six ambulances were deployed to shift the injured to nearby hospitals while more than 10 injured people were referred to a district medical college for medical treatment. Two children were reported in serious condition.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the base of the swing was weak and not properly anchored to the ground making it unbearable to hold the massive load of the riders.
