What Suicide Note In Bengaluru Techie Couple’s Case Revealed; Job Loss To AI, Depression, Secrets

Bengaluru : The morning of March 30 began like any other in Kothanur, a quiet, tree-lined neighbourhood in Bengaluru. A low hum pervaded a residential complex, waking up to another Monday. Bhanu Chander Reddy, a young software engineer, was found hanging in his home. Soon after, Shazia, his wife of nine years, discovered his body. Theirs is a story of dashed dreams, ruptured relationships, and mental anguish.
Police sources said Reddy had been working in the US with an annual package of about Rs 1 crore. Then his company went big in on AI and laid off a bunch of employees. Reddy was one of the casualties. He remained unemployed for nearly a year despite applying to multiple companies. Limited opportunities due to policy changes under Trump further constrained prospects in the US.
Shazia, who had been working in Hyderabad, resigned and later secured a position at IBM. The couple relocated to Bengaluru and began rebuilding their lives, police sources said. Everything seemed fine, for a time. However, Reddy was under medication and battling depression, which investigators believe contributed to his death. Police said the couple had known each other since childhood. They started dating, eventually moved in together and even got hitched.
Shazia was also anxious about revealing the marriage to her family. Her father is said to be influential, and she continued to keep the relationship under wraps. She would visit home occasionally. Her family later told police she appeared normal during her last visit over Eid and showed no signs of distress. After discovering her husband’s body, Shazia was unable to cope. Before taking the extreme step, she tried calling her mother twice but received no response.
Her mother, who police said is not very literate, did not fully understand the messages and did not alert other family members. It was only after the police contacted them that the family learned of the deaths. The news hit them like a bolt from the blue. In his suicide note, Reddy reportedly wrote that he had caused trouble to others and could not do justice to his wife. He also expressed regret over not being able to openly introduce her to his parents.
