Bumrah Checks Into BCCI’s Centre Of Excellence Ahead of IPL 2026 — Injury Scare Or Routine Visit?

Jasprit Bumrah has checked into the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru just days before IPL 2026 gets underway, leaving fans and followers wondering whether the visit is injury-related or simply part of his pre-tournament preparation. Nothing has been confirmed either way.

The timing is notable. Mumbai Indians have already assembled most of their squad for pre-season camp, but four T20 World Cup-bound Indian players were granted additional time before linking up with the group. MI head coach — the Sri Lankan — addressed the arrangement at the closing ceremony of the MI Junior season at MIG Cricket Club Ground.

“Every year, our aim is to get there. But I know it’s a long season. So, pre-season will start the way we usually start, working hard, getting new boys into the setup. And with our World Cup guys, we’ve given them a bit of an extended break so that they will join us next weekend. The overseas guys also flew in home and then they will join us. But they’ll have a good one-week training with us before the first game,” he said.

Bumrah’s schedule since mid-2025 has been relentless. After India’s Asia Cup 2025 campaign in the UAE, he featured in home Test series against West Indies and South Africa, then stayed on for the Proteas T20I leg. He followed that with five T20Is against New Zealand before heading into the T20 World Cup.

At the tournament, Bumrah took 14 wickets joint-most alongside Varun Chakaravarthy. His standout moment came in the final against New Zealand in Ahmedabad, where a four-wicket haul earned him the Player of the Match award. After that, he stepped away from cricket entirely for two weeks.

He is now back in training. Mumbai Indians open their IPL 2026 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, March 29, at home six days away.

For a bowler who has battled injury through much of his career, the CoE visit will stay under scrutiny until MI or BCCI offer clarity. In 145 IPL appearances across 13 seasons with Mumbai Indians, Bumrah has taken 183 wickets at an economy of 7.25, with two five-wicket and three four-wicket hauls to his name.
