Trump Ignites Fury: US-Ecuador Military Raid On ‘Terror Groups’ Draws Sharp Online Backlash

New Delhi: President Donald Trump encountered widespread online criticism following the US Southern Command’s disclosure of collaborative military efforts with Ecuadorian troops aimed at neutralizing designated terrorist organizations within Ecuador.

The US Southern Command detailed on X that on March 3, Ecuadorian and American forces initiated operations targeting these groups. “The operations are a powerful example of the commitment of partners in Latin America and the Caribbean to combat the scourge of narco-terrorism,” the command stated.

Accompanying footage of the mission, the post emphasized, “Together, we are taking decisive action to confront narco-terrorists who have long inflicted terror, violence, and corruption on citizens throughout the hemisphere.”

SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan praised the Ecuadorian personnel in the announcement, noting, “We commend the men and women of the Ecuadorian armed forces for their unwavering commitment to this fight, demonstrating courage and resolve through continued actions against narco-terrorists in their country.”

Clips from the operation depicted a helicopter lifting off and seemingly zeroing in on objectives.

This Ecuadorian engagement aligns with the Trump administration’s intensified scrutiny of South America, highlighted by the deployment of US troops to Venezuela for the apprehension of President Nicolas Maduro and his spouse. The pair was transported to the United States for indictment in a remarkable sequence of developments.

Meanwhile, the United States remains embroiled in hostilities with Iran in the Middle East, alongside its ally Israel, heightening global strains.

The Ecuador initiative has fueled discontent among observers already skeptical of America’s expanding military involvements, contrasting sharply with Trump’s campaign pledges during his reelection bid to steer clear of foreign entanglements.

Trump slammed Ecuador for its actions.

The president’s role in the Ecuador operation provoked significant backlash. One social media account asserted, “US EMPIRE JUST LAUNCHED ITS LATEST CLOWN WAR IN ECUADOR. Terror label slapped on locals overnight. Anything to keep us away from Epstein since Iran started to not work as a distraction.”

A self-described group of Republicans opposed to Trump reposted the SOUTHCOM statement: “On March 3, Ecuadorian and U.S. military forces launched operations against designated terrorist organizations in Ecuador, U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) said.”

Another commenter proclaimed, “PRESIDENT TRUMP ISN’T HOLDING BACK ANYMORE. HE IS WAGING AN ALL OUT WAR ON THE CARTELS.”

Throughout his second term, Trump has adopted a stringent policy against drug trafficking across borders, encompassing attacks on vessels labeled as ‘narco-terrorist’ assets in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific under Operation Southern Spear. That said, certain accounts suggest these actions may have inadvertently affected non-combatants aboard such ships.
