A deeply emotional video of Indian cricketer Rinku Singh breaking down inconsolably during his father’s funeral procession has gone viral on social media. In the heartbreaking footage, the 28-year-old can be seen wiping away tears with his t-shirt as hundreds of mourners gathered to pay their last respects, with police flanking him throughout the procession.
Rinku’s father, Khanchand Singh, who worked in gas cylinder distribution in Aligarh, passed away after battling cancer. A resident of Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh, Rinku has often credited his father as a pillar behind his rise in cricket. Khanchand had stood firmly by his son’s dream of becoming a cricketer despite the family facing significant financial hardships.
On the field, Rinku did not feature in the playing XI during India’s match in Chennai, though he did come on as a substitute fielder. India secured a crucial 72-run victory in that game, keeping their semi-final hopes alive.
