Anurag Kashyap Brands ‘The Kerala Story 2’ as Outright Propaganda

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has launched a scathing attack on the upcoming film The Kerala Story 2, dismissing it as crude propaganda designed to sow division for profit.
The sequel, directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, is scheduled for theatrical release on February 27. It has already ignited intense debate following the release of its trailer, which features a scene showing one of the protagonists being forcibly fed beef by a Muslim family.
Kashyap shared his views while speaking to paparazzi in Kochi, where he had traveled to attend the Filmfare Awards South. When asked about the trailer, he did not mince words. He described the original The Kerala Story as a “s* movie” and labeled the sequel “total bull** propaganda” and “bakwaas picture,” calling it outright “crap.”
He singled out the controversial beef-feeding sequence for particular ridicule, questioning its plausibility. “Aisa kaun beef khilata hai? Aisa koi khichdi bhi nahi khilata hai” (Who feeds someone beef like this? No one is fed even khichdi in this manner), he remarked.
Kashyap went further, accusing the makers of exploiting divisive themes purely for financial gain. “They just want to make money and please everybody; divide people. The filmmaker is a greedy man. He just wants to make money,” he stated.

The film has faced broader backlash in recent days. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condemned it, urging people to reject portrayals of the state as a hub of terrorism. He emphasized Kerala’s tradition of religious harmony, sustainable development, and strong law and order, calling on citizens to protect its secular values against what he described as false propaganda.
Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah defended the project in a statement to Hindustan Times, asserting that it draws from real cases documented in the Indian legal system. He explained that the narrative centers on three girls but incorporates elements from numerous other incidents to present a wider picture of the situation across India.
The Kerala Story 2 has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. Amid the growing controversy, the film continues to polarize opinions ahead of its release.
