BMC Intensifies Anti-Encroachment Drive On Mohammad Ali Road For Third Consecutive Day

(From our representative)

Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has stepped up its enforcement actions against illegal constructions and footpath encroachments following the return of corporators after a four-year gap. The civic body has been conducting sustained operations on Mohammad Ali Road in South Mumbai for three consecutive days, targeting unauthorized structures and clearing public spaces.

Mohammad Ali Road, a popular shopping destination and renowned food street that attracts large crowds in the evenings, has long grappled with widespread encroachments. Hawkers and shopkeepers have illegally occupied footpaths and portions of the road, creating significant obstacles for pedestrians and vehicular traffic alike.

According to Assistant Commissioner of ‘B’ ward Yogesh Desai, the civic administration launched a comprehensive drive to remove illegal constructions between January 29 and February 5. The operation was resumed three days ago with renewed vigor.

On Wednesday, municipal teams removed unauthorized structures along Mohammad Ali Road while also clearing precariously hanging cable wires and illegally drawn electrical connections from roads and bridges. The drive included a thorough cleaning campaign that freed footpaths and carriageways from encroachments, restoring access for citizens.

The BMC’s renewed focus on enforcement reflects the civic administration’s return to alert mode with elected corporators back in charge of the municipal corporation after four years.
