‘Their Service Will Be Remembered Forever’: PM Modi Mourns Death of Army Soldiers in Doda Road Accident

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday conveyed profound sorrow following the devastating road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district that resulted in the deaths of 10 Indian Army soldiers.

Through a post on X, the Prime Minister stated he was “deeply anguished” by the tragedy and offered tribute to the deceased soldiers. “Deeply anguished by the mishap in Doda, in which we have lost our brave army personnel. Their service to the nation will be remembered forever. May the injured recover at the earliest. All possible support is being provided to those affected,” he wrote.

The incident took place when an Army truck veered off the road at the 9,000-feet-high Khanni top along the Bhaderwah–Chamba interstate route and fell into a steep gorge. Ten soldiers died, while 11 others suffered injuries.

A combined rescue mission was promptly initiated by the Army and local police. Four soldiers were discovered dead at the location, while six others died from their injuries during medical treatment. Among the injured, ten soldiers were transported by air to the Udhampur Command Hospital for advanced medical attention, while one soldier continues under observation at the Bhaderwah sub-district hospital.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also conveyed condolences. Sinha stated the nation would forever remember the soldiers’ exceptional service and ultimate sacrifice. Abdullah expressed sincere sympathies to the grieving families and hoped for the injured to recover swiftly.

Previously, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also voiced deep sadness regarding the incident, offering condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers.
