Mumbai News: 27 Evacuated, Woman Injured As Fire Breaks Out In Andheri West High-Rise

Mumbai: A fire incident at a high-rise building in Andheri West led to the safe evacuation of 27 residents on Saturday afternoon, though one woman suffered smoke inhalation injuries. The blaze, which was limited to electrical wiring, was doused completely within two and a half hours, officials confirmed.

The fire erupted at 2:10 pm on the first floor of Chandiwala Pearl Regency, a ground-plus-18-storey residential tower located opposite the Andheri Subway. Flames remained confined to electrical wiring within the electric duct running between the first and fourth floors, damaging electrical installations, false ceilings and passage materials. The gymnasium on the first floor and its equipment also sustained damage.

Mumbai Fire Brigade personnel responded with eight fire engines and four jumbo water tankers. Dense black smoke filling the building complicated rescue efforts. Fire brigade teams used ladders to bring down five men and four women from the third and fourth floors, while 18 other residents made their way out through the staircase, a fire official said.

Simran Sheikh, 27, a third-floor resident, suffered suffocation from smoke inhalation during the incident. She was rescued and rushed to the civic-run Cooper Hospital for medical attention.

According to fire officials, the building’s fire-fighting infrastructure was operational at the time of the blaze. However, materials inside the first-floor gymnasium were destroyed. The building’s electrical wiring has been switched off, and the electricity company is working to restore power supply. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames by approximately 4:35 pm.
