Delhi Police File Case Against Kejriwal Over Alleged Misuse of Public Funds for Hoardings

Delhi Police reported to a local court on Friday that they have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others, accusing them of misappropriating public funds in 2019 by erecting oversized hoardings across the capital. The update came via a compliance report submitted to Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal.

The development follows a court order on March 11, which instructed police to file the FIR based on a complaint alleging breaches of the Prevention of Defacement of Property Act. The case has been scheduled for its next hearing on April 18, with authorities requesting additional time to conduct their investigation.

In addition to Kejriwal, the FIR names former MLA Gulab Singh and Nitika Sharma, a former Dwarka councilor, for their alleged roles in setting up the expansive banners. The original complaint, lodged in 2019, claimed that Kejriwal, alongside Gulab Singh of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), then representing Matiala, and Sharma, then councilor for Dwarka A ward, intentionally misused taxpayer money to install the large hoardings at multiple locations in the area.

Separately, the report notes that an earthquake struck central Myanmar, with its epicenter located approximately 50 kilometers (30 miles) east of Monywa. Amid the country’s ongoing civil war, no immediate details have emerged regarding the quake’s impact.
