Epstein Case : US Justice Department Releases Thousands Of New Documents

New Delhi : The Justice Department released a new batch of documents related to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s investigation on Tuesday, with the latest batch mentioning Donald Trump in connection to flight records of Epstein’s private jet. The release of 30,000 new files includes about thousands of pages and dozens of video clips, some reportedly filmed inside a prison.

One of the Epstein documents includes an email stating that “Donald Trump travelled on Epstein’s private jet many more times than has previously been reported (or that we were aware).” The email, dated January 7, 2020, is part of a chain with the subject line “RE: Epstein flight records. The email states that Trump was listed as a passenger on at least eight flights between 1993 and 1996, including four flights with Ghislaine Maxwell. It notes that he travelled at times with Marla Maples, his daughter Tiffany, and his son Eric.

Meanwhile, minutes after releasing the latest documents, the Department of Justice said that some of the newly released Epstein documents included “untrue and sensationalist claims” about former President Donald Trump, submitted to the FBI just before the 2020 US election. Trump initially tried to block the disclosure of the files linked to Epstein, a wealthy financier with rich and powerful connections.

The President, who cut ties with Epstein years before his arrest and faces no accusations of wrongdoing, finally bowed to mounting pressure from Congress and signed the law compelling publication of the files. The sweeping blackouts across many of the documents — combined with tight control over the release by officials in Trump’s administration — have stoked skepticism over whether the disclosure will silence conspiracy theories of a high-level cover-up.
