Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Muscat on Wednesday evening (December 17) for a two-day official visit to Oman, the final leg of his three-nation tour that also took him to Jordan and Ethiopia. He was welcomed at the Muscat airport by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said. The two leaders held talks on boosting defence cooperation and further deepening the strategic partnership between India and Oman. Modi later posted on social media platform X, thanking Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said for the warm reception in Muscat.

At his hotel, Prime Minister Modi was greeted by enthusiastic members of the Indian community. A colourful cultural programme was organised, featuring Omani traditional dance alongside Indian performances, including a blend of classical forms such as Kuchipudi and Kathak, Rajasthan’s Ghoomer, Karnataka folk dance Yakshagana, Bollywood freestyle routines, and a Gujarati song. Writing on X, Modi described Oman as a land of “enduring friendship” and “deep historical connections” with India, adding that his visit offers a chance to explore new areas of collaboration and inject fresh momentum into bilateral ties.

During the two-day visit, Modi will hold detailed discussions with the Sultan of Oman on Thursday, reviewing the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. He is also expected to address a business forum bringing together industry leaders from both countries. Additionally, the Prime Minister will interact with students and members of the Indian community in Oman, who have been keenly awaiting his arrival.
