Congress Slams Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Over Hijab Removal Incident, Calls Act ‘Disgusting’ And Demands Resignation

The Congress party on Monday condemned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar following the circulation of a video allegedly depicting him removing a Muslim woman doctor’s hijab at a government function in Patna.

Posting the video on X, Congress stated, “This is Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Look at his shamelessness, a female doctor had come to collect her appointment letter, and Nitish Kumar pulled off her hijab.”

Questioning women’s safety in Bihar, the party further commented, “A man holding the highest office in Bihar is openly indulging in such a vile act. Think about it, how safe will women be in the state?”

Calling for his resignation, Congress declared, “Nitish Kumar should immediately resign for this disgusting behaviour. This vileness is unforgivable.”

Reports indicate the episode took place during an appointment letter distribution ceremony at the Chief Minister’s residence, where newly appointed AYUSH doctors were receiving their letters.

The woman featured in the video has been identified as Nusrat Parveen. The footage shows Nitish Kumar questioning her about her headscarf after presenting the appointment letter and directing her to take it off. Before she could react, he reportedly pulled down her hijab himself.

The woman looked visibly taken aback by the Chief Minister’s conduct, while attendees at the function could be heard laughing in the background.

According to reports, appointment letters were distributed to 1,283 AYUSH doctors at the ceremony, including 685 Ayurvedic, 393 Homeopathic and 205 Unani practitioners.
