Punjab Budget 2025-26 : Rs 2.36 Lakh Crore Suggested, Important Steps for Security, Agriculture, and Anti-Drug Measures

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema laid the state Budget for FY26 in the Vidhan Sabha, suggesting a total expenditure of Rs 2,36,080 crore. The budget suggests some important initiatives, including security, agriculture, and public health.
One of the key announcements made was the formation of a second line of defense at the state border by posting 5,000 home guards in addition to the Border Security Force (BSF). Cheema also announced the state’s resolve to curb drug abuse by launching the first-ever “drug census” to gauge the usage of drugs and review the success of de-addiction centers in Punjab.
For the agricultural sector, the Punjab government allocated Rs 9,992 crore for offering power subsidies to farmers. Moreover, Cheema touched upon the national issue of stubble burning, reaffirming the government’s resolve to addressing the problem with holistic measures designed to reduce its environmental footprint.
