Kane Williamson Applauds Shreyas Iyer for Continuing to Evolve Game After Match-Winning Knock

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson has praised Shreyas Iyer for his ongoing evolution as a batsman, particularly his skill of dealing with short-pitched balls. After Iyer’s masterful 97 not out in the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans, Williamson praised Iyer’s versatility and development as a player. Iyer, who began his captaincy career with a match-winning performance that saw nine sixes and five fours, has been impressive by making modifications in his stance and technique to meet short balls.

Williamson, who was with the Gujarat Titans, praised Iyer’s technical changes, especially his penchant for conquering short-pitched balls. “What impresses me with Shreyas is how he keeps refining his game,” Williamson said. He pointed out Iyer’s skill to read the bowlers and transfer his weight, which made him a more menacing batsman. Williamson also labeled Iyer’s innings as “of the highest standard,” highlighting his prowess in hitting sixes against world-class bowlers like Rashid Khan.

Apart from Iyer’s batting, Williamson also appreciated Shashank Singh for his 44 not out off 16 balls, which enabled Punjab Kings to post an unbeatable total. Williamson was impressed with Singh’s calmness and quick adaptability to various deliveries, especially his confident stroke play against quality bowlers such as Rashid Khan.
