New Delhi: Investigators probing the devastating explosion near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort have uncovered new footage showing a masked individual behind the wheel of a Hyundai i20 car just minutes prior to the blast that claimed lives and sparked widespread alarm.
The incident unfolded on Monday evening around 6:52 pm on Netaji Subhash Marg, near the Lal Quila metro station, as the area teemed with evening crowds. A powerful detonation tore through the white Hyundai i20 bearing registration HR26CE7674, killing at least eight people, injuring more than 20 others, and igniting fires that engulfed nearby vehicles.
Fresh images from a nearby parking lot reveal a man in a black mask driving the vehicle, according to details reported by Hindustan Times. Authorities have secured CCTV recordings of the car entering and leaving the parking area, confirming the driver was alone, as cited by news agency ANI.

Sources told ANI that teams are meticulously reviewing over 100 CCTV clips, including those from toll plazas, to map the car’s full path, with efforts focused on its movement toward Daryaganj. Earlier footage indicated the vehicle arrived near Sunehri Masjid via the Daryaganj market around 4 pm—nearly three hours before the explosion. It proceeded along Chhata Rail Chowk, made a U-turn toward Lower Subash Marg, and was slowing at a traffic signal when the blast occurred.
The high-intensity explosion not only shattered the Hyundai i20 but also damaged surrounding cars and caused panic in the historic old Delhi quarter. Forensic teams and security agencies swiftly descended on the scene to collect evidence and determine the cause.
As the investigation intensifies, officials continue to piece together the sequence of events leading to the tragedy that unfolded in one of the capital’s busiest zones.
