Surat Tragedy: Class 12 Science Student Ends Life After Low Marks

A Class 12 science student from Surat’s Sachin area died by suicide after reportedly feeling dejected over low marks in his first-term Physics exam. The incident has cast a pall of grief across the locality, with family and relatives in deep shock over the loss of a promising teenager.

Police said 16-year-old Tanmay Rathod ended his life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan using a dupatta at his home in Sachin Telanpur. He was known as a bright student and aspired to become a scientist at ISRO, according to relatives. The recent low score in Physics allegedly left him distressed, and he is believed to have taken the extreme step in that state of despair. His father, Himanshu Rathod, works as a craftsman at a company in Pandesara.

The tragedy has been particularly devastating for the family because Tanmay’s uncle, Jitubhai Rathod, conducts awareness sessions in schools and colleges on suicide prevention. The family said they were stunned that such an incident happened within their own home despite their advocacy for mental health and resilience. Sachin police have initiated inquest proceedings and are conducting further investigation.
