Jammu And Kashmir Police Recovered 360 Kilograms of Ammonium Nitrate From The Tip Of Arrested J&K Doctor

Srinagar : The Jammu and Kashmir Police have recovered 360 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate, an ingredient used in making explosives, and seized a rifle from Haryana’s Faridabad. The recovery was made during a raid at Al Falah Hospital in Faridabad, based on information provided by Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather during interrogation.

Initial reports claimed that around 300 kilograms of RDX and an AK-47 rifle were seized in Faridabad. It is an ongoing joint operation between Haryana police and J&K police. An accused, Dr Muzammil, was nabbed. 360 kg of inflammable material was recovered yesterday, which is possibly ammonium nitrate. It is not RDX, Faridabad Commissioner of Police, Satender Kumar, said.

Currently in police custody, is being questioned for his alleged role in storing and facilitating the transport of arms and explosives. Earlier, police had seized an AK-47 rifle and other ammunition from a locker belonging to him in the Kashmir Valley. Investigations have also pointed to the involvement of Dr Muzamil Shakeel, a resident of Koil in Pulwama district, who is suspected to have helped stock the seized chemicals and arms in Faridabad.

A wider probe is now focusing on a network of doctors from Jammu and Kashmir suspected of having links with the banned terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Police sources said more recoveries and arrests are likely as security agencies trace the network involved in smuggling and storing arms and explosives outside the Union Territory.

A massive anti-terror operation is underway across Jammu and Kashmir. On Sunday, nine people, including a woman, were detained during raids carried out across the Valley, with the operations continuing into Monday. Search and cordon drives were conducted at several locations in Ramban, Kishtwar, Doda, Kathua, Reasi, Poonch, and Rajouri districts after intelligence inputs suggested that terrorists hiding in the upper reaches were seeking safe shelters in the plains for the winter.
