Dileep Sanghani’s ‘Karmic Justice’ Tweet Rekindles Amreli Letter Controversy, Exposes BJP Factionalism

A cryptic social media post by IFFCO Chairman and senior BJP leader Dileep Sanghani has reignited a year-old controversy and sparked intense debate within Gujarat’s political circles. On Monday, Sanghani tweeted in Gujarati, “દિકરીના નિહાપા….. લાગ્યા !”, which translates to “A daughter’s curse has taken effect!”, widely interpreted as a reference to karmic justice.

The post was immediately linked to the public humiliation of Payal Goti in Amreli last year. Goti was arrested and publicly “paraded” by police after being accused of typing an infamous letter that made allegations of misconduct against BJP MLA Kaushik Vekariya. It was later revealed in court that she had committed no crime and was merely following instructions from a local taluka panchayat president.

At the time of the incident, Sanghani had openly criticized the police’s handling of the case and expressed sympathy for the victim. His latest tweet, while not mentioning anyone by name, is being seen as a direct comment on that scandal. Sanghani has not responded to attempts to seek clarification on his post.

The timing of the tweet has fueled speculation that it reflects growing frustration among BJP leaders from the Saurashtra region, particularly after several were overlooked in the recent state cabinet reshuffle. The comment section under Sanghani’s post highlighted this sentiment, with one user writing, “As a blind devotee, I was deeply pained… the man who has married off thousands of poor and orphaned girls was sidelined, while the one who paraded a woman was promoted and made a minister.”

Congress leader Pratap Dudhat commented on the matter, stating, “Perhaps Sanghani tweeted out of pain from a past incident, but today countless sisters and daughters are toiling in the fields. Sanghani should instead join the struggle for farmers’ rights.”

This incident is the latest in a series of public expressions of discontent from senior BJP leaders in Saurashtra, signaling a departure from the party’s traditionally strict internal discipline.
