Ahmedabad: A month-long Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Gujarat’s electoral roll kicked off on Tuesday, with more than 50,963 booth-level officers (BLOs) beginning a door-to-door verification and distribution drive aimed at reaching nearly 5.08 crore voters across the state.
According to Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ashok Patel, each BLO will personally visit households to hand out pre-filled enumeration forms and assist voters in verifying or updating their details. Speaking to news agencies, Patel said,
“Once the forms are collected, BLOs will upload them through a dedicated mobile application. The draft electoral rolls will be published on December 9, followed by a period for claims and objections until January 8, 2026. The verification and approval process will continue until January 31, and the final voter list will be released on February 7.”

The CEO’s office further noted that Gujarat is among 12 states and Union Territories where the Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated the SIR exercise this year. The revision comes months ahead of local body elections and two years before the next Assembly polls, slated for late 2027.
In Ahmedabad district alone, 5,524 BLOs have been deployed to reach 62.59 lakh voters across 21 Assembly constituencies. District Election Officer and Collector Sujeet Kumar convened a meeting with representatives of political parties to brief them on the process.
A release from the CEO’s office stated,
“From today, BLOs in Ahmedabad district will distribute enumeration forms to voters according to their assigned constituencies. The completed forms will be collected after four days.”
The initiative aims to ensure transparency and accuracy in the electoral process, reinforcing voter participation ahead of upcoming elections.
