Renukaswamy Murder Case : Actor Darshan, Pavitra Gowda Charged With Murder
Bengaluru : Bengaluru’s 64th Sessions Court on Monday framed charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and unlawful assembly against actor Darshan, Pavitra Gowda, and 15 others in the Renukaswamy murder case. The victim, Renukaswamy (33), a resident of Chitradurga and a fan of actor Darshan, was found dead near a storm-water drain in Bengaluru on June 9 2024.
The proceedings began amid a packed courtroom, prompting Judge IP Naik to express frustration over the overcrowding. How can charges be framed with so many people here? he remarked, asking lawyers not connected to the case to step out. He even warned that the hearing would be postponed if the situation continued and hinted at holding in-camera proceedings if necessary.
The judge began reading the charges against the first accused, Pavitra Gowda. The court noted that Renukaswamy had allegedly sent obscene messages to her, following which he was kidnapped, taken to a shed in Bengaluru, and assaulted.
According to the charges, Pavitra hit Renukaswamy with a slipper, while Darshan allegedly removed his pants and assaulted his private parts, leading to his death. All 17 accused refused to plead guilty, and the court began the signing procedure to confirm the framing of charges. Following this, Darshan, Pavitra, and seven others were shifted back to jail.
