Widow of Fallen Haryana Cop Urges Swift Justice: Suspend Officers Named in Shocking Suicide Note

CHANDIGARH: In a poignant appeal amid mounting grief, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini convened with Amneet P. Kumar, the bereaved spouse of the late senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, at his official Sector 24 residence on Thursday afternoon.

The chief minister arrived promptly at 12:30 pm and engaged in discussions that extended until 1:15 pm. During this encounter, Amneet P. Kumar, an IAS officer herself, presented a detailed two-page memorandum to Saini. In it, she called for the prompt suspension and apprehension of all personnel referenced in her husband’s suicide note, alongside immediate safeguards for her family’s well-being.

Addressing the chief minister in her formal submission, Amneet P. Kumar pressed for the expeditious filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against every individual cited in the note and the attached grievance, in strict adherence to legal protocols. She underscored the necessity of suspending and detaining the accused without delay to avert any potential meddling with evidence, witness intimidation, or undue sway over the probe.

Furthermore, she sought round-the-clock security arrangements for the household of the departed IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, with particular emphasis on their two young daughters, who remain in acute peril and emotional turmoil. Amneet P. Kumar also advocated for robust measures to uphold the family’s entitlements and personal integrity, as they grapple with ongoing intimidation and apprehension from the perpetrators.

“This incident transcends the tragedy of a single officer’s demise,” Amneet P. Kumar articulated in her letter. “It stands as a critical examination of our commitment to equity, due process, and the supremacy of law. The late Y. Puran Kumar embodied integrity and public duty; the system’s reticence merely amplifies the anguish borne by his kin and the wider society that revered him.”

Earlier, on Tuesday, Amneet P. Kumar had lodged an official grievance with the Station House Officer at Police Station Sector 11 in Chandigarh, targeting Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujeet Singh Kapur and SP Rohtak Narendra Bijarniya. She accused them of abetting suicide and perpetrating caste-based discrimination, invoking Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023—equivalent to Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code—and pertinent clauses of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

According to her comprehensive filing, the officer endured relentless degradation, torment, and coercion that ultimately drove him to his fatal decision.
