Bhuj Doctor Launches Campaign to Eliminate Dengue Mosquitoes, Locals Join the Effort

Bhuj: With dengue fever on the rise across Kutch due to continuous rainfall and humid conditions, a pediatrician from Bhuj has taken an innovative approach to raise awareness and combat the spread of the disease. The doctor has launched a campaign aimed at educating schoolchildren and the public about dengue prevention, using the slogan “Kill mosquitoes wherever you see them.” He has been visiting schools, neighborhoods, and community events to spread the message.
Efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding sites
Renowned pediatrician Dr. Nehal Dilipray Vaidya from Bhuj-Kutch spends his mornings and free hours touring different areas of the city and nearby villages, identifying mosquito breeding spots and working to eradicate them. His consistent efforts have encouraged local residents to join him.
Dr. Vaidya also visits various schools to educate children about how dengue mosquitoes breed. He shows them mosquito larvae collected in glass jars and explains how these larvae can be destroyed before they mature. He stresses that removing breeding sites promptly can effectively prevent dengue outbreaks.
Dr. Vaidya explains dengue mosquito growth cycle
According to Dr. Vaidya, dengue mosquitoes develop within eight days after laying eggs. If the larvae are eliminated within that period, new mosquitoes cannot emerge. He noted that dengue mosquitoes thrive in areas where clean water collects. During inspections in Bhuj, he found numerous mosquito larvae in water containers placed for birds and animals.
Where mosquitoes breed
Mosquitoes commonly breed in water-filled containers such as tanks, old utensils, tins, tyres, air coolers, refrigerator trays, and discarded coconut shells. Dr. Vaidya emphasized that timely disposal or cleaning of these items can significantly reduce the spread of dengue.
As part of his awareness drive, he cycled across the city from Khengar Baug to various key points, including the Sixth Gate area, encouraging people to adopt the slogan “Kill mosquitoes wherever you see them” to fight dengue collectively.
