Assassins Targeting Comedian Munawar Faruqui Captured in Intense Delhi Gun Battle

New Delhi: Authorities have apprehended two alleged hitmen from the notorious Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar-Virender Charan syndicate, who were reportedly dispatched to assassinate popular stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui. The arrests followed a fierce exchange of gunfire along the Jaitpur-Kalindi Kunj Road in the capital on Thursday, according to police statements.
The suspects, identified as Rahul from Panipat in Haryana and Sahil from Bhiwani in the same state, were part of a plot orchestrated by the overseas fugitive Rohit Godara. Investigators revealed that Godara collaborated closely with the Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar and Virender Charan in directing the operation against Faruqui, whose rising fame has made him a high-profile target.
Prior to the confrontation, the duo had undertaken surveillance missions in Mumbai and Bengaluru, meticulously mapping Faruqui’s daily routines to execute the killing, officials disclosed. Faruqui, fresh off his victory in the 2024 season of the reality television juggernaut Bigg Boss, commands a massive online following of 14.2 million on Instagram, amplifying his visibility in India’s entertainment landscape.
The skirmish left Rahul with a gunshot injury, prompting his immediate transfer to a nearby medical facility for care. Law enforcement sources confirmed that Rahul remains a fugitive in a grisly triple homicide case from December 2024 in Yamunanagar, Haryana, underscoring his deep entanglements in organized crime. During the operation, officers recovered the weapons fired in the clash along with a motorcycle believed to have been used by the pair.
This incident highlights the escalating threats posed by transnational criminal networks infiltrating urban centers, with Delhi police vowing to dismantle such operations. The syndicate’s reach extends beyond entertainment figures, often fueled by personal vendettas and territorial rivalries among gang leaders operating from abroad.
