NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the tragic stampede-like incident at Tamil actor-politician Vijay’s party rally in Karur, which claimed several lives and left many injured.
In a statement, the Prime Minister said, “The unfortunate incident during a political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, is deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Wishing strength to them in this difficult time. Praying for a swift recovery to all those injured.”
The condolence from PM Modi comes as political leaders across party lines mourn the loss of lives in the tragedy, which unfolded during a Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) campaign event late Saturday evening.
