PM Modi Congratulates New Nepal PM Sushila Karki, Wish Nepal Bright Future

New Delhi : As Nepal crawled back to normalcy after days of violent protests resulted in a change of regime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated the Himalayan nation’s interim Prime Minister, Sushila Karki. The PM also wished Nepal’s youngsters a bright future ahead.
Karki, Nepal’s former Chief Justice, was officially sworn-in as the interim Prime Minister of the country after she took oath of office on Friday night. Nepal is a friend of India, a close friend. Today, on behalf of 140 crore Indians, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Smt.
Sushila ji on assuming charge as the Prime Minister of the interim government in Nepal. Sushila ji’s taking oath as the first woman Prime Minister of Nepal is a very good example of women’s empowerment,” PM Modi said while addressing a large gathering in Imphal.
PM Modi said that she will pave the way for peace, stability and prosperity in Nepal. Earlier this week, Nepal witnessed the most violent protests in recent times when Gen Z protesters took to the streets across the country, demanding the Oli government’s resignation over widespread corruption and a social media ban, which was later withdrawn.
The demonstrations, which began as peaceful protests on Monday, gradually snowballed into violent agitation with some protesters resorting to arson and vandalism after they set the prime minister’s residence, the president’s residence, the country’s Supreme Court and other key installations on fire.
