Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu Invokes 9/11 To Justify Strike On Hamas In Qatar

New Delhi : Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has defended the recent Israeli military action targeting Hamas officials in Qatar’s capital Doha, drawing parallels to the United States’ response to the 9/11 attacks. I say to Qatar and all nations who harbour terrorists, you either expel them or you bring them to justice. Because if you don’t, we will, Netanyahu stated in a powerful message aiming to galvanise international support for Israel’s stance against terrorism.
Israel struck the headquarters of Hamas’ political leadership in Qatar on Tuesday as the group’s top figures gathered to consider a US proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Qatar condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly” action, and “a blatant violation of all international laws and norms, and poses a serious threat to the security and safety of Qataris and residents in Qatar.
Netanyahu reflected on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, recalling the enormity of the event and the subsequent US commitment to track down those responsible. He highlighted the parallel between the events of 9/11 and those of October 7, when, according to him, Islamist terrorists committed the worst savagery against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.
What did America do in the wake of September 11th? It promised to hunt down the terrorists who committed this heinous crime, wherever they may be. And it also passed a resolution in the UN Security Council, two weeks later, stating that governments cannot give harbour to terrorists. Well, yesterday, we acted along those lines,” the Israel Prime Minister said.
Further referring to the US operations against Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and the killing of Osama bin Laden in Pakistan, he added, “We did exactly what America did — went after Al-Qaeda terrorists in Afghanistan and later killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan. Now, the various countries of the world condemn Israel. Netanyahu went on to criticise Qatar for allegedly supporting Hamas by providing refuge and resources to its leaders. “It finances Hamas. It gives its terrorist chieftains sumptuous villas,” he claimed, accusing Qatar of creating a conducive environment for terrorism.
The Israeli leader reiterated his call to action, urging nations to either expel terrorists or face potential Israeli intervention. “I say to Qatar and all nations who harbour terrorists: you either expel them or bring them to justice. Because if you don’t, we will,” Netanyahu declared. Netanyahu’s speech seeks to bolster support for Israel’s military strategies by embedding them within the broader narrative of the global fight against terrorism.
