Hyderabad Braces for Heavy Rainfall as CM Issues Alert

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has placed the state on high alert for the next 72 hours due to forecasts of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Hyderabad and several other districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red warning, prompting the Telangana government to announce a two-day closure of all schools in five districts Hanumakonda, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Warangal, and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri on August 13 and 14.

In Hyderabad, schools within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area will operate for only half a day on both August 13 and 14. Additionally, the government has urged IT companies in the city to implement work-from-home arrangements to ensure employee safety during the anticipated downpour. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) has forecasted rainfall ranging from 10 to 15 centimeters, with some areas potentially receiving up to 20 centimeters, particularly in northern Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri district, and the Cyberabad region.

HYDRAA has advised residents, especially those in low-lying areas, to relocate to safer locations as a precautionary measure. The agency emphasized that the heavy rainfall is expected to persist from August 13 to August 15, with the potential for significant impacts in vulnerable areas. Authorities have urged the public to stay vigilant and adhere to advisories issued by the IMD, HYDRAA, and local officials.

To support residents during this period, toll-free numbers have been established for reporting rain-related emergencies or incidents. The government’s proactive measures aim to minimize risks and ensure public safety as the state prepares for the intense weather conditions. Citizens are encouraged to remain informed and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property during this period of heavy rainfall.
