Bahraich : Two Hindu men in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district have alleged they were abducted, stripped, and tortured after previously reporting an alleged ‘love jihad’ case to police. Chandan Maurya, filed a complaint at Ramgaon police station.
He, his cousin Mohit, and a friend, Annu, were on their way to attend a birthday party when they were intercepted by Shahabuddin, along with two others from Mehari Baikha village. Two more men, identified as Anas and Zeeshan, later joined the group. Chandan claimed the attackers stripped them, beat them with iron rods and sticks, denied them water, and allegedly forced them to drink urine. He also alleged they were made to chant “Islam Zindabad” at gunpoint.
The two men were rescued near Matera, and the car used in the alleged abduction has been seized, he added. On the claims of religious slogans, Tiwari said, “These allegations have not yet been substantiated with any evidence. Chandan further alleged that the attackers were part of an Instagram group called Baba Guruup that used fake Hindu identities to trap Hindu girls via WhatsApp. He claimed the group flaunted luxury cars and gadgets, and shared a screenshot of one such alleged fake ID.
Chandan also accused the police of inaction when he first reported the group’s activities nearly two months ago. “Instead of acting, the police deleted all the evidence from my phone and tried to mediate a compromise,” he said, adding that the attackers had been holding a grudge since then and were planning to kill them in Nepal.
