From 2020 to June 2025, the nation reported 5,740 cases of bird strikes involving aircraft, leading to damage in 804 planes. Ahmedabad airport ranks fourth in the country for such events, logging 337 incidents during this period, trailing behind Delhi (695), Mumbai (407), and Bengaluru (343). Hyderabad follows with 207 cases.
Government figures highlight a worrying trend in wildlife-related aviation risks, particularly during takeoff and landing phases, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of safety protocols.
Details of Key Crashes in Gujarat and Beyond
Among the eight major accidents nationwide this year, two took place in Gujarat’s Amreli and Mehsana districts. In Amreli, a trainee pilot’s plane crashed and caught fire, resulting in the pilot’s death. The Mehsana incident involved severe damage to a trainee pilot’s aircraft due to low fuel, though no fatalities were reported there.
Out of these eight crashes, four led to loss of life. Other notable locations include Jaipur, Delhi, and Chennai, where similar aviation mishaps occurred.
Over 1,800 Flight Cancellations This Year
Technical and operational issues have forced the cancellation of 1,800 flights across India in 2025 alone.Airlines have issued advisories urging passengers to check statuses amid ongoing disruptions, with some carriers offering waivers on rescheduling or refunds.
