Bail Plea in Saif Ali Khan Attack Case Raises Questions for July 21 Hearing

Mumbai: Mohammed Shariful Islam, the 30-year-old accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, has filed for bail, claiming the First Information Report (FIR) against him is a baseless fabrication. Currently held in Arthur Road Jail, Islam’s bail application is set to be heard by a Mumbai court on July 21, as reported by PTI.
The incident occurred in the early hours of January 16 at Khan’s Bandra residence, when an intruder allegedly broke in and confronted the actor’s house help in the room of his younger son, Jehangir. Hearing the disturbance, Khan intervened, attempting to protect his staff, only to sustain six stab wounds, two of which were near his spine, according to reports. The actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery and was discharged five days later.
In his bail plea, filed through advocate Vipul Dushing, Islam asserts his innocence, stating he has no prior criminal record and has fully cooperated with the investigation. He argues that the probe is nearly complete, with key evidence such as CCTV footage and call records already secured by the prosecution, eliminating any risk of evidence tampering or witness interference. Islam’s plea further contends that the FIR is a “fictional story” lacking credible evidence.
