Littering In Public Place? Get Ready To Be Caught ‘Trash-Handed’ As Vadodara Municipality Installs LED Screens On Roads Displaying Violators

Around 200 People Reportedly Fined In A Month

In a first, people of Vadodara will witness large LED screens at crossroads and other roads, as the administration has decided to fine those who litter in public places. This initiative is a part of a digital campaign to promote cleanliness in the city.

Speaking on the issue, Dharmesh Rana, Executive Engineer of the Solid Waste Department, shared that the initiative of the Vadodara Municipality is based on the principle of ‘Shame is also a penalty’, in which the fine is not only in a monetary way, but also in a social way.

He said that this initiative will improve the mindset of the people who tend to throw garbage on the roads; others will also get a lesson. It is aimed at changing the mentality of people by showing those who litter on the screen, he added.

Apparently, photos of the people who litter in public places, along with their vehicle number, are being displayed on large LED screens that have been installed at main squares and roads of the city. As of now, a total of 69 LED screens have been installed at different locations of the city. In which, people who violate the law are captured in the CCTV camera, the footage of which is then displayed on the screen.

The Corporation is reportedly planning to install more screens in the future, along with making the rules against littering in public places more stringent. In a month, around 200 people have been caught in the CCTV camera littering in public places. These people have been exposed of littering, and have been fined. This approach aims at increasing the effectiveness of the cleanliness campaign in Vadodara.
