Mudslide Devastates China-Nepal Border, 18 Missing

A catastrophic mudslide struck the Gyirong Port area along the China-Nepal border early Tuesday morning, leaving 17 people missing, according to Xinhua News Agency. The disaster, which occurred around 5 a.m., affected Gyirong township in Xigaze city, located in Southwest China’s Xizang autonomous region.
Local authorities reported that 11 individuals were unaccounted for on the Chinese side of the border, while six Chinese construction workers were missing on the Nepali side. The mudslide, triggered by heavy rainfall, caused significant disruption in the region, which serves as a critical trade and transit point between the two nations.
Rescue operations are underway, with emergency teams deployed to locate the missing individuals. The incident highlights the vulnerability of border regions to natural disasters, particularly during the monsoon season. Xinhua News Agency provided details of the event, emphasizing the urgency of the ongoing search efforts.
