ST Bus Driver Arrested For Murdering Wife In Gujarat: Body Found In Locked House in Mandvi

The accused has been arrested from the Geeta Mandir ST bus depot in Ahmedabad.

Surat: A gruesome murder case in Gujarat has come to light as police solved the mystery behind the decomposed body of a woman found inside a locked house in Mandvi taluka’s Machhivad area in Surat district. The accused, Dinesh Damor, who works as a driver with the Gujarat State Transport (ST) department, has been arrested from the Geeta Mandir ST bus depot in Ahmedabad. Police investigations revealed that Dinesh murdered his wife, Sumitra, following ongoing domestic disputes.

According to available information, Dinesh Damor, a native of Santrampur in Mahisagar district and employed at the Mandvi ST depot, was living with his wife Sumitra in a rented house owned by Pushpa Chauhan on Ambaji Road in Machhivad. The couple frequently fought, and Dinesh had often threatened to kill his wife during their arguments.

A few months ago, Sumitra had briefly returned to her parental home after a major quarrel, but Dinesh had managed to bring her back. However, for the past four days, neighbors noticed that the house was locked from the outside. On Friday, a strong foul odor coming from the house alarmed the locals, who then informed the police. Upon breaking the lock and entering the premises, police discovered Sumitra’s highly decomposed body inside the house.

Forensic examination of the body confirmed that Sumitra had been strangled. During the investigation, it became clear that Dinesh, frustrated by the ongoing fights with his wife, had followed through on his previous threats and killed her by strangling her.

After the murder, Dinesh switched off his phone and went into hiding. Since he was an ST driver, police suspected he might use a state transport bus to escape. They alerted ST depots and police departments across multiple districts. Acting on a tip-off, the accused was eventually tracked and arrested at the Geeta Mandir ST depot in Ahmedabad by the Kagdapith police and later handed over to Mandvi police for further investigation.

The case has shocked the local community and raised concerns about domestic violence and mental health among working professionals in the state transport sector.
