Navsari: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall with thunderstorms across many parts of Gujarat for the next five days. Currently, three active weather systems are contributing to the widespread downpours. Navsari city is experiencing flood-like conditions due to intense rainfall in the city and upstream areas. In response, all schools and anganwadis (childcare centers) in Navsari’s urban region have been closed. The Purna River has risen above the danger mark, prompting authorities to stay on high alert.
Due to continuous heavy rain upstream, more than 1,000 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas in Navsari city, Gandevi, and nearby regions. In Kutch’s Nakhatrana area, five inches of rain fell between 2 AM and morning. Officials have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious and contact emergency services if needed. District control room numbers are: 02637 233002, 02637 259401, and the toll-free helpline 1077.

On Sunday, over 550 people were evacuated in Navsari due to rising floodwaters in the Purna River. In Dangs district, a sudden surge in water at the popular Bhengu waterfall in Koshmal village created a life-threatening situation for tourists. A video of the incident went viral on social media, causing panic.
For today, July 7, an orange alert has been issued for Navsari, Valsad, Daman, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli due to the likelihood of very heavy rainfall. Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surat, Tapi, and Dang are under a yellow alert for heavy rain.
