Trump Dismisses Musk’s America Party as “Ridiculous” Amid Growing Tensions

In a sharp rebuke, US President Donald Trump labeled Elon Musk’s newly formed “America Party” as “ridiculous,” emphasizing his commitment to the traditional two-party system. Speaking to reporters, Trump expressed skepticism about Musk’s political venture, stating, “I think it’s ridiculous. We’ve had tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party system, and I think starting a third party just adds to confusion.” He added, “Third parties have never worked; he can have fun with it.”
Trump’s comments came in response to Musk’s announcement of the America Party, which the tech billionaire launched to challenge what he describes as a “one-party system” in the United States. The remarks follow Trump’s signing of the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” a significant legislative achievement that eliminated the federal electric vehicle (EV) mandate, a policy Musk had previously endorsed despite Trump’s longstandingcdf opposition.
Taking to his Truth Social platform, Trump escalated his criticism, describing Musk as “completely off the rails” and a “train wreck” over the past five weeks. He highlighted the Republican Party’s success, noting, “Republicans are a smooth-running machine that just passed the biggest bill of its kind in the history of our country.” Trump also pointed out that the bill’s elimination of the EV mandate, which he has consistently opposed, allows consumers to choose between gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrids, or emerging technologies.

Trump further claimed that Musk had fully supported his presidential campaign despite knowing about Trump’s stance against the EV mandate. “When Elon gave me his total and unquestioned endorsement, I asked him whether he knew I was going to terminate the EV mandate it was in every speech I made,” Trump said.
The rift between the two influential figures deepened after Musk, a former key supporter and donor to Trump’s 2024 campaign, publicly clashed with the president over cost-cutting efforts as head of the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk’s launch of the America Party came shortly after this fallout, signaling a significant shift in their once-close alliance.
