Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rain Under Cloudy Skies

Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast cloudy conditions across Mumbai, with moderate to heavy rainfall expected in isolated areas of the city and its suburbs over the next 24 hours. According to the IMD’s Colaba observatory, a minimum temperature of 26°C was recorded, while the Santacruz observatory noted a slightly higher minimum of 26.5°C. Maximum temperatures are anticipated to hover around 32°C.
The IMD’s latest bulletin indicates that the city will experience a generally overcast sky, accompanied by intermittent moderate rain and the possibility of heavy showers in some pockets. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph are also expected, prompting residents to stay cautious. No specific weather warnings have been issued for Mumbai at this time, but the IMD advises vigilance due to the potential for heavy rain.
Data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shows that the island city recorded 2.57 mm of rainfall, while the eastern and western suburbs saw 2.67 mm and 2.04 mm, respectively, between 8 am Tuesday and 8 am Wednesday. The city’s overall average rainfall for this period was 2.41 mm, with cumulative precipitation since June 1 reaching 1686.99 mm in the island city, 1838.09 mm in the eastern suburbs, and 1768.63 mm in the western suburbs.

The BMC has urged residents to stay updated on weather conditions and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours. The IMD’s forecast aligns with the ongoing monsoon activity, which continues to bring significant rainfall to the region.
