Mumbai Braces for Heavy Rainfall as IMD Issues Yellow Alert

Mumbai is set to experience significant rainfall today, July 2, 2025, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for the city and neighboring Thane and Palghar districts. The warning indicates heavy showers at isolated locations, potentially causing waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the financial capital.

The IMD forecasts cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain throughout the day. Residents are advised to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding. The alert follows a period of intense monsoon activity, with the IMD noting that the southwest monsoon covered the entire country earlier than its usual July 8 schedule.

Additionally, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has urged citizens to stay vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel. The BMC emphasized the risk of water accumulation on roads, which could snarl traffic and disrupt daily commutes. Commuters are encouraged to monitor weather updates and plan their journeys accordingly.

Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Raigad, signaling the possibility of very heavy rainfall in that region. Mumbai’s weather is expected to remain unsettled, with forecasts predicting continued showers in the coming days.
