Father And Son Die By Suicide In Sabarkantha’s Idar Due To Loan Shark Harassment

Sabarkantha: In a tragic incident in Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district, a father and his son died by suicide by jumping into a well, allegedly due to relentless harassment by a local loan shark. The case has shaken the town of Finchhod in Idar, where the family lived.
According to initial reports, the father, distressed by constant pressure and aggressive debt recovery tactics, first pushed his son into the well before jumping in himself. Locals and family members claim that despite regular repayments, the moneylender continued to demand more, creating unbearable mental stress for the family.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident. No suicide note has been found so far, but the bodies have been sent for post-mortem, after which they will be handed over to the family.
This is not an isolated case. In a similar incident in Kadi, Mehsana, another family, a husband, wife, and their child, died by suicide by jumping into the Narmada canal. In that case, a suicide note blaming loan sharks was recovered from their car.
In response to rising cases of such tragedies, the Gujarat government had previously launched a statewide crackdown on illegal moneylending practices. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghavi had instructed the police to take strict action against unauthorized lenders while ensuring no innocent person is wrongly implicated.
Despite these measures, such incidents highlight the urgent need for stronger enforcement and support systems to protect vulnerable borrowers from predatory lending.
