India Proposes Four-Step Plan to Ease Tensions with China Along LAC

New Delhi: India has put forward a comprehensive four-point strategy to address ongoing border tensions with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), aiming to foster stability and improve bilateral relations. The proposal was presented during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers’ meeting.
The plan emphasizes strict adherence to disengagement agreements in critical areas such as Depsang and Demchok, where both nations recently completed troop withdrawals and resumed patrolling, according to ANI. This follows a significant agreement reached in October 2024, marking a breakthrough after the 2020 Galwan Valley clash that strained ties.
Additionally, the strategy calls for accelerated efforts in delimitation and demarcation to clarify the often-ambiguous LAC, a long-standing issue fueling disputes. The proposal advocates for a transparent and expedited process to define the boundary clearly.

The plan also prioritizes rebuilding trust between the Indian and Chinese militaries, a point underscored by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, who described the LAC situation as “sensitive” yet improving. Finally, it seeks to prevent future incursions by establishing robust mechanisms to maintain peace along the border.
This initiative builds on recent diplomatic progress, including the October 2024 agreement and subsequent high-level talks, such as those between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. These efforts signal a commitment to de-escalation and restoring normalcy in bilateral relations.
