Panic Grips Mumbai Metro as Bus Fire Smoke Fills Coaches at Devipada Station

Mumbai: A private bus ignited near Devipada Metro Station on the Western Express Highway in Borivali, Mumbai, on Tuesday afternoon, causing alarm among metro passengers as smoke seeped into a stationary train. Videos circulating online captured the distress of commuters inside the affected metro coach. No injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.

The bus, unoccupied at the time, burst into flames on the road beneath the elevated metro station. Firefighters, alongside metro personnel, swiftly responded and extinguished the blaze. The rapid response contained the situation, preventing any harm.

Smoke Enters Metro Coach, Causes Panic Among Passengers

As flames and smoke rose from the bus, a Mumbai Metro train on the Red Line arrived at Devipada station. A video shared on social media captured tense moments inside a smoke-filled metro coach, showing confused and distressed passengers struggling to understand the situation. the metro stopped at the station despite the fire below and opened its doors, allowing smoke to enter. “There were no announcements and the smoke inside was getting thicker before the doors finally closed again,”.

Maha Mumbai Metro Issues Statement On Fire & Smoke Incident

Following the public concern, Maha Mumbai Metro Operations issued an official statement acknowledging the incident. “We regret the inconvenience caused to our valued passengers,” the statement read. “A private bus on the road below Devipada station caught fire today in the afternoon. Metro staff & fire brigade responded swiftly and brought the situation under control.”
