Ahmedabad’s Schools to Ordered Open During Jagannath Rath Yatra Celebrations

Ahmedabad: Gujarat schools will operate as usual on June 27 during Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra festival, defying tradition after the state government banned local holidays to prioritize its concurrent Praveshotsav (school enrollment drive) from June 26–28.
The School Management and Administrators’ Body confirmed it instructed all institutions to follow the directive but urged parents to “make an informed decision about sending their wards to school, keeping safety in mind.” This advisory references past incidents of children going missing during the city’s massive processions.
While Ahmedabad schools historically closed for Rath Yatra due to crowded celebrations, this year’s overlap with the statewide Praveshotsav forced the policy shift. School authorities anticipate significantly reduced attendance on June 27 as families weigh risks.
