Ahmedabad Police Arrests Female From Chennai Responsible For Series Of Hoax Bomb Threats Across 11 States

Ahmedabad: In a major cybercrime breakthrough, the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested a senior consultant at Deloitte in Chennai, identified as Rene Joshilda, for allegedly orchestrating a series of bomb threats across multiple states in India. The accused is reportedly wanted by police departments in 11 states for similar offenses. According to officials, Joshilda sent over 21 threatening emails targeting public spaces such as schools, hospitals, and stadiums, including prominent locations in Ahmedabad. The emails caused widespread panic and led to intense security responses across several cities.

The investigation began when Geneva Liberal School in Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej received a threatening email on June 3, 2025, from an anonymous account. The message mocked the police and claimed a bomb would be detonated to draw attention to a past crime involving a rape case in Hyderabad. The school’s administration filed a complaint, prompting immediate action from the cybercrime unit.

Further investigation revealed a disturbing pattern: Joshilda had allegedly used VPNs, the dark web, and fake email IDs to conceal her identity and location. She also employed advanced cyber tactics to launch the threats from seemingly untraceable sources. Despite these efforts, digital forensics and technical surveillance eventually traced the activity back to her. Among the locations she allegedly targeted were: Geneva Liberal School, Sarkhej, Divya Jyot School, Bopal, BJ Medical College, Asarwa and Narendra Modi Stadium, Motera.

Senior officers including Joint Commissioner Sharad Singhal, DCP Dr. Lavina Sinha, and ACP Hardik Makdiya confirmed that the motive behind the threats appears to be rooted in one-sided obsession and personal vendetta. The accused allegedly attempted to harass and defame an acquaintance using fake social media identities and repeated terror threats.

Investigators also discovered email IDs used to create the illusion of a broader conspiracy and stoke fear.Joshilda, who has an electrical engineering background, had been working at Deloitte since 2022. Police believe she acted alone and had been issuing these threats for more than a year. Her actions triggered alerts in multiple cities, draining law enforcement resources and causing public alarm.

Authorities are now examining her digital devices for additional evidence and potential links to others. The case underscores the increasing threat posed by individuals misusing technology for personal revenge, and has sparked renewed calls for stronger cyber monitoring and early detection systems. Joshilda is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
