
Monsoon has begun in Gujarat and its effect is already being experienced everywhere. Several regions of the state are experiencing heavy rainfall along with thunder and lightning. A whopping 9.8 inches of rainfall was recorded in Aahwa, 9.5 inches in Kaprada, and 7.7 inches in Waghai. Amid such conditions, the IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Saurashtra and South Gujarat in the next 24 hours.
An orange alert has been issued in 6 districts of South Gujarat for today (June 19). Surat, Navsari, Daang, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli are likely to experience heavy rainfall. On the other hand, a yellow alert has been issued in 9 districts, in which Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Dahod, Tapi, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir-Somnath, and Diu are expected to receive heavy rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in Dadra-Nagar Haveli, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir-Somnath, and Diu.
Heavy rains bring along troubles for people, as roads get waterlogged. 134 roads of the state are closed due to rains during this time of the onset of monsoon. Out of these, 10 are state highways. During such times, roads become dangerous for commuters and it is important to take necessary steps to ensure safety. These rains have also led to the dams to get filled with fresh water of the season. In such a situation, 11 dams are on high alert, 13 on alert, and 10 on warning mode.
