Heavy Overnight Rain Leaves Ahmedabad Waterlogged: City Records An average Of 3 Inches Of Rainfall In Past 24 Hours

Ahmedabad: The city experienced continuous rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms starting late Wednesday night and continuing into early Thursday morning, resulting in widespread waterlogging across several areas. According to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), the city recorded an average of 3 inches of rainfall in the past 24 hours. Ahmedabad City has recorded a total of 0.16 inches of rain from today morning.

Several key underpasses and major roads were submerged and subsequently closed to traffic. The Akhbar Nagar and Sabarmati D-Cabin underpasses were among the worst affected, forcing authorities to block vehicular movement. In the eastern part of the city, the Madhumalti Housing Scheme in Nikol saw water levels rise above three feet, with drainage still incomplete by early morning. As a result, residents struggled to commute, facing significant disruptions in reaching their workplaces.

The situation is not limited to Ahmedabad. Since the night of June 18, heavy rains have lashed several parts of Gujarat, creating near-flood-like conditions in multiple districts. Low-lying areas are experiencing severe waterlogging, disrupting daily life for many residents.

In Gandhinagar, two luxury cars were trapped under a flooded underbridge, and five people had to be rescued. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall with lightning turned Ahmedabad streets into streams overnight, forcing further closures like the D-Cabin underpass in Akhbar Nagar. In Chhota Udepur, a truck was reported to have been swept away by floodwaters.
