
Ahmedabad: Gujarat has been experiencing heavy rainfall for the past three days. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across several regions today, including Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, as well as the Saurashtra districts of Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, and Diu.
109 people have been rescued amid the flood-like situation from across the rain in the last 36 hours. Nearly 18 have tragically lost their lives in rain-related incidents. 5 NDRF teams and 20 SDRF teams have also been deployed to handle the situation. Fishermen have been advised to not enter the sea till June 21. In light of the forecast, all schools in Bhavnagar and Botad have been closed today as a safety measure.
The low-pressure system currently active in the region is expected to sustain heavy rainfall across the state until June 23. A red alert has been declared in several districts, including Ahmedabad, Anand, Bharuch, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, Botad, Porbandar, and Junagadh. Other areas like Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Vadodara, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Amreli, Morbi, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gir Somnath, and Kutch are also expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Authorities have advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea due to dangerous conditions.
In an incident reported today, the causeway near Paranala village in Limbdi was washed away due to heavy rains in the region and upstream flow. Overflow from the Dholidhaja Dam has led to water levels rising, prompting officials to issue a warning to residents in low-lying areas to remain cautious.
